Hearing
Alvin Eden, M.D.

Hearing problems must be recognized as soon as possible so that proper treatment can be started. Long delays in diagnosis make treatment more difficult. Here are some danger signals related to your infant's hearing: 1. If your four-month-old doesn't turn to the cause of a distinct sound near him. 2. If your six-month-old gradually stops making babbling sounds. 3. If your eight-month-old doesn't enjoy ringing a bell or shaking a rattle. 4. If your twelve-month-old doesn't start imitating the various sounds you make to him. If you notice any of the above danger signals, check with your baby's physician. It may turn out to be a false alarm, but you must not take any chances with your baby's hearing.
