While as common as constipation or gas is in pregnancy, diarrhea can cause serious problems if it persists. A great deal of body fluids can be lost and dehydration can set in over a prolonged period of time.
Dehydration can affect the fetal well-being, and may also cause you to go into premature labor. If you have diarrhea, consult your doctor. Depending on the severity and the duration, he or she may want to check your stool for bacteria or parasites. If you have either of these, you will need to be treated.
Fortunately, most cases of diarrhea are short-lived. It may be something you ate, or due to a virus. In this case, you can do several things to improve your condition:
