Hemorrhoids

Rectal bleeding can be a very scary problem. Especially if you're pregnant. If you have any bleeding or spotting, consult your doctor immediately.

Hemorrhoids, which are vericose veins of the rectum, are a very common cause of this problem, and can be made worse during pregnancy. You may also have complaints of itching, and this also may be painful. There are several things which you can do to avoid developing hemorrhoids and to alleviate them if you are already a victim:

• Do not make the diagnosis yourself. You must see a physician, since rectal bleeding can be a sign of a serious illness.

• Avoid constipation. This is probably the most effective way to prevent hemorrhoids. Do not strain when having a bowel movement.

• Ice packs can give you some relief.

• Keep the area clean.

• You can also get a special cushion to sit on.

  Speak with your doctor before using any medications. Your hemorrhoids should improve after your delivery, so be patient if you can. Remember, hemorrhoids are just a pain in the "you know what"!!
