VIP Treatment For The Birthday Child
by Vicki Lansky
The nicest birthday gift you can give a child is truly a day that is
his or her own, even if there will be no birthday party. Have the whole
family get up early and gather quietly around the birthday child's bed.
Then sing "Happy Birthday" and present him or her with a small
gift to start the day.
- Decorate the birthday child's plate at the table for breakfast. Use
balloons and crepe paper or maybe a special birthday plate or place mat.
- Make up a poem, song, or skit in honor of the birthday child. Let
each member of the family contribute to it and have part in presenting
it.
- Write a birthday message on your child's bathroom mirror with
lipstick; it does come off easily with soap and water.
- Or you can make a big birthday badge with ribbons, lace, sparkles,
and a big number showing your child's age.
- Show home videos of past parties from other years. You can bring out
old photos of the birthday child and just see how much he or she has
changed and grown.
- But lastly, remember that no birthday is complete without cake and
candles, even if it only means a single candle on a single frosted
cupcake.
