Five Options for Educating Your Child
Finding a good school for your child may seem like an impossible task, but by thinking
in terms of several options it's possible to get a quality education for your child almost
anywhere in the country.
Here are five options to consider:
- Bloom where you're planted. Even if your child is in a classroom where his needs aren't
being met, you can work to create change, by meeting with his teacher and gently suggest
changes in the way he's being taught. If that doesn't work, try option number two.
- Transplant your child to another classroom or school. Sometimes all your child needs is
a more positive relationship with a teacher and a chance to make a fresh start. However,
if public education doesn't suit his needs, then try option number three.
- Send your child to a private alternative school. If these are too expensive or not
available, consider option number four.
- Home school your child. Parents are increasingly doing this around the country with
positive results. If this is impractical, and all else has failed, then consider option
number five.
- Use special education laws to get a quality education for your child.
