Motivational authors need to understand their audience. They need to write to them and not at them. Testers who read this book quickly caught onto the fact that Greg Hatcher was speaking to them from a perspective that was not unlike their own. At times Mr. Hatcher does get tripped up in redundancies, perhaps the result of trying too hard to get his point across, or maybe a too-lenient editor. But the theme is solid and worthwhile. Good examples are given and it does provide ideas for parents and coaches to use to get young athletes to push themselves without putting undue stress on themselves. Sure it's more fun to win, but only if the joy of the competition remains intact.
