Impatient Pamela Wants a Bigger Family
Trellis Publishing, Inc.
Featuring an even handed approach presenting the joys and hassles of living in a large family as opposed to her home where it's just Pamela and her parents, there are interesting lessons taught here. While Pamela begins the story with a "grass is always greener" idea, she learns that it isn't always the case. Introduced to a large family that included several adopted children, Pamela discovers the frustrations of standing in line for the bathroom and sharing not only bedrooms but parents too. Pamela experiences that there can also be lots of fun in numbers, (it's a heck of a lot easier to get a pick-up basketball game together) but in the end the whole process serves to give her a greater appreciation of what she has. While the message is rather targeted, it certainly delivers an insightful approach.

Brain Games, Brain Puzzlers, More Brain
Puzzlers and Brain Puzzlers (Jumbo)
Teacher Created Materials, Inc.
What exactly are brain games you ask? They are the type of games that make you spin your wheels, scratch your head and jump-start your noggin. Here are four fabulous titles representing a huge compendium of puzzlers. Each book is jam packed with brain games covering a wide variety of skills that will both challenge and entertain you. The books each work their way up from easy puzzles for young children, to some real toughies that will leave any aged puzzler puzzled. Great for travel, classroom use or, as many parents told us, for whiling away time spent in the car at after-school pickups.

It is filled with real-life scenarios and propositions that require them to think use reasoning and ultimately choose a course of action. Raising Yourself is a very proactive book that is designed to get in the faces of teens. Parents thought the issues, which include friends, sex, jobs and much more, were thought provoking and appropriate.
