New Technologies

iKTV
TAO Music, Inc.

Ultra sleek, ultra cool, ultra fun, iKTV brings the fun of Karaoke home in an affordable unit that makes singing along with your favorite tunes a blast.  The compact design of the iKTV lets you keep it handy for those times you feel like singing along with the your favorite hits.  The unit comes with two Karaoke CD's and one microphone.  Options allow you to add many more songs and up to four mics, which is when the fun really happens.  The videos are not MTV versions but rather generic remakes, but our testers agreed that it didn't detract from the experience of belting out favorites.  The onscreen option of singing alone with instrumental accompaniment or with back-up singers was a real plus.

Skipdoctor MD
Digital Innovations

As hard as it is to shell out upwards to $50 for a video game or $16 for a music CD, the pain is magnified when your shiny disk becomes scratched and unusable.  Once believed to be impervious to damage the reality is that even the smallest of scratches can cause skipping music and unplayable video games.  Digital Innovations has designed a system that can save you hours of fretting and tears.  Skipdoctor MD is a simple device that resurfaces your CD making it, in most cases, as good as new.  We invited people to bring us their CD's that had been relegated to the back of the drawer. With a single spin in this motorized, handheld wonder, they were back in the favorites pile once more.  The machine buffs out a microscopic layer of plastic to even out the surface that the laser reads.  Testers told us that they felt this innovative system would pay for itself in short order.

Recommended Age: 12 and Up                   Price: $54.99
