Lacey
O'Neal
Accord
Publishing
This rollicking, uniquely styled book features an imaginative writing style that really caught our testers fancy. The publishers obviously had a ball with the whimsical illustrations that make the Lacey O'Neal experience an enticing one. The novel use of stretchy shoelaces that intertwine throughout each page of the book delighted readers and listeners alike. There is a strong message of relationships and treating each other with caring compassion that resolves well and left our testers with a good feeling.

This combination book and CD-ROM, packaged together for

Very easy to use, just pop it in the CD-ROM tray and off you go, no

without much instruction. There are
great illustrations both in the book and on the CD.

Fun
with Numbers
Publications
International, Inc.
Like other winners from Publications International, this
combination hardcover book and CD-ROM software title is a solid combination of
traditional storybook learning with the addition of new technology.
This is done is a seamless manner so that neither one outshines the
other, but in fact the result is quite impressive.
Using simple animations and sounds to effectively communicate with this
young audience, along with an easy to understand and use navigation method, our
young testers had no problem playing with and enjoying numbers.
The fact that they could keep practicing the lessons, even when away from
the computer by reading the book was a real plus in the eyes of our parents.

Sports Illustrated for Kids Magazine
Sports Illustrated for
Kids
Sports Illustrated has a long history of providing sports
fans with terrific photojournalism and cutting edge stories.
Now young readers can experience the SI world with this publication aimed
directly at them. Hip, age
appropriate columns and photo-essays give kids an in-depth look at today's great
athletes. There are features that
really touched our readers such as profiles of young and lesser-known athletes,
and we really liked the sports cards that had photos of players like Mark
McGwire and Michelle Kwan when they were kids.
The whole endeavor worked well to show athletes as real people.
This magazine is encouraging and shows readers the value of hard work.
The youthful, positive and encouraging attitude of the magazine really
struck a chord with both parents and kids.
Recommended Age: 8 to 13 Price: $2.99 per issue
Best
Web Sites for Kids 2000
Teacher Created
Materials, Inc.
It is a fact of our Internet saturated lives that new web
sites burst onto the scene every day. It
is a daunting task for any book on the subject not to be outdated (like that old
computer you now use as a doorstop). However, within this well laid out
directory there are some very interesting and fun sites that are selected and
reviewed. The subjects are pretty
extensive, which is an indication of just how much information is floating
around out there in cyberspace. If
you don't know where to start the Internet can be overwhelming and your kids may
not be taking full advantage of the many positive sites that are out there.
This book can be a helpful guide and our testers told us that they
believed it would interest and intrigue their kids.
